This is a proposal prepared for Northern Corridor Economic Region to revitalise tourism in Lenggong – containing sites with some of the world’s oldest evidence of hominid habitation. Drawing inspiration from renowned sites like the Cradle of Humanity in South Africa and the Inca Trail in Peru, our proposal seeks to expand Lenggong's “Archeo-tourism” concept into a holistic tourist destination, tentatively named “The Trail of Early Humans." This concept integrates archaeological wonders seamlessly with the natural beauty of the landscape, offering scenic viewpoints and family-friendly activity hubs along the trail to cater to a wider range of travelers.
The project features an iconic museum experience centered around the Perak Man Room, and an iconic trail design that includes boardwalks, bridges, and natural paths with photogenic viewpoints. An adventure trail option invites exploration of Lenggong's many caves and rock formations, while iconic landscape scenes, such as the “elephant head” cave and a restored meteor impact crater, highlight the area's unique natural features. The landscape design will maintain a natural and unmanicured appearance to blend seamlessly with Lenggong's environment. Sustainable utilities and services, such as solar power, wind turbines, and optimized rainwater use, will be integrated. Archaeologically-sensitive structural designs will protect unexcavated sites, and existing structures will be adapted for the upgrades, ensuring sustainability and cost-effectiveness.
